VERASENSE is the latest technology available for balancing total knee replacements.
'Balancing' in total knee replacement refers to fine tuning the tension on the ligaments and tendons of the knee to improve knee function, feel and movement. The VERASENSE system involves using trial components embedded with pressure sensors linked wirelessly to a computer to measure the pressure in different parts of the knee in different positions. This allows the surgeon to accurately measure tension and balance and adjust as required during the operation.
Dr MacKenzie uses the VERASENSE system for total knee replacements at both Lingard Hospital and John Hunter Hospital.
