Dr MacKenzie

Dr Stuart Mackenzie is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery and trauma surgery.

He has a special interest in difficult and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. He also specialises in arthroscopic knee surgery, including ACL reconstruction, and orthopaedic trauma surgery.

Dr Mackenzie has undertaken training in orthopaedic surgery in Australia, the USA, Canada and England.

He undertook his undergraduate medical training at the University of Newcastle Graduating in 2002. He also completed a Bachelor of Medical Science (Honors) degree in 1999. He undertook his internship and resident years in Hunter area Health Service before starting orthopaedic training.

Dr Stuart MacKenzieHe completed the Australian Orthopaedic Association training program in Newcastle and was awarded a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (Ortho) in January 2011.

After completing his qualification as an orthopaedic surgeon Dr MacKenzie travelled overseas undertaking further fellowship training in hip and knee surgery.

He spent a year doing a Fellowship in Adult Hip and Knee Reconstruction through the University of Alberta and the Royal Alexandra and Misericordia hospitals in Edmonton Canada.

Following this he moved to England and completed the prestigious Exeter Hip Fellowship at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre in Exeter. The Exeter Hip Unit was one of the pioneers of hip replacement surgery and is widely considered to be one of the leading hip replacement hospitals in the world.

He has also spent 6 months working in the USA at the Shriners Hospital in Portland, Oregon.

Dr MacKenzie continues to attend many meetings and courses keeping up to date with the latest techniques and technologies including Direct anterior hip surgery and robotic assisted orthopaedic surgery.

Dr MacKenzie currently works in both the public and private hospital systems. He holds appointments at the John Hunter Hospital and Lingard Private Hospital.

DrĀ  MacKenzie is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association. He is also a member of the Hip, Knee and Trauma Societies of the Australian Orthopaedic Association.
